Small Space Garden Solutions: Growing Edibles Indoors
One of the most common frustrations I hear people mention is their lack of space for gardening. I feel that deep in my bones – there’s never enough space for me either. This leads me to a very special subject: indoor edible gardening! You don’t even need a yard OR patio!
I’ve been on the hunt for easy-to-use, pretty-to-look-at, inside gardening solutions as we move into colder months. It’s a tall order, but one that I have found some deep satisfaction in! We’ve found the goods people, and they are truly good.
Some quick tips for gardening inside:
- Know your light source. Most plants need some light, so setting them in a window to get indirect sunlight is key. For plants like herbs, they like a long duration of sunlight (think 6 hours in a south-facing window).
- Keep the soil damp. Every day just dab your finger in the soil to see if it’s damp. If it is, let it be. If it’s not, water.
- Water from the bottom or find self-watering solutions. Plants actually take their water up from their roots (you know this), so water them from below with a dish under your pot, and save them a lot of hard work. Self-watering pots are also all the rage right now, and for good reason. They take a lot o the pain of remembering to water out of the equation.
- Plants love company. Don’t be afraid to plant a few things in one pot. Herbs are friendly, and you get actually squeeze quite a few things into one small space. I love growing parsley, chives, and cilantro together on the counter for easy access while cooking.
I have found some fantastic indoor growing products that are all the things: pretty, functional, easy to use. Here are some favorites:
I hope these fabulous finds are helpful to you and inspire you to garden indoors! I am thrilled to have found them and will showcase how I use some of mine in the coming weeks!
