This time of year we’re all looking to pawn off cucumbers, amirite?! And all good gardeners have a refrigerator pickle recipe out of sheer necessity, but you can only eat and gift so many pickles before people start avoiding eye-contact.
Well my friends, I had a genius idea come to me (if I say so myself), to help me manage a bumper crop of cucumbers. Gifting fried pickle kits! Cute little jars of the ingredients you need to make fried pickles, so you can hawk your goods under the guise of a cute little “I love you” or “thank you” gift. You’re welcome!
Here’s all you need to make Fried Pickle Gifts happen:
- A pickle recipe. Mine is HERE.
- Cute little jars. Here.
- Fry batter dry ingredients, assembled into your cute little jar
- A recipe for fried pickles written out (see my recipe below)
- Twine. Here.
My fried pickle recipe*:
Dipping sauce:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons ketchup
2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
Fried pickles:
Vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Small pinch of cayenne pepper
Salt
1 cup sliced fridge pickles
INSTRUCTIONS:
Heat an inch of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over high heat until oil reaches 375º.
Meanwhile, mix all dry ingredients. Spread pickles onto a paper towel, and dry off. Then dredge in the dry mixture, placing one pickle into the oil at a time.
Fry until golden brown about 1-2 minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon.
As pickles cool just a touch, mix up all dipping sauce ingredients.
Eat while hot!
Enjoy all the gifting my loves!
