Homemade Pasta with Flowers
When the pandemic hit, my first comment to my husband was, “Babe, don’t worry. I can make pasta from scratch. We’re fine.” He rolled his eyes. He’s one of those weirdos who doesn’t love pasta. We love him anyways.
However, flour shortages soon became a reality. I was able to make it through with enough, but do need more pasta flour to be able to make this recipe again.
Nonetheless, I want to share this Homemade Pasta with Flowers recipe because it lights up my life and is truly so simple. Even the toddler helps me!

Some notes on pasta making:
When it comes to homemade pasta, I’ve tried two approaches. One with an all purpose flour and semolina flour mix and one with an all purpose flour and pasta flour mix. I prefer the latter because it’s more fine and light.
I have also tried three methods – hand rolling, using my KitchenAid attachment, and using a pasta maker. I also prefer the latter, though enjoy all three methods. The pasta maker I use is the Marcato Design Atlas 150. I love love love this machine!
Homemade Pasta with Flowers
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup pasta flour (type 00 flour)
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 handful of pansy or viola petals
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Mix flours together with salt, then make a well with the flour
- Mix eggs and oil and water into that well in the flour, starting with the outside of the wet ingredients, and working inwards with a fork.
- Knead a bit with your hands once combined – should be sticky.
- Let rest at room temperature for 30 mins (don’t skip this step)
- Cut your dough into fourths, to create workable sized dough balls. Roll each one out onto a floured surface until about 1/4 inch thick.
- Rinse your flower petals and parsley, then dry fully. Add them onto the top of your dough sheets. In the next step the pasta maker will press them into the dough fully for you.
- Work your dough through the pasta maker as directed. This is fettuccine, so I worked it through my Atlas 150 from setting 0, until setting 7.
- Boil in heavily salted water for about 4 minutes and then it’s ready to eat!
