The Love Your Life More Recipe
I was taught by one of my mentors to never leave a meeting without asking the other person, “So, what keeps you up at night?” It’s a harmless way to ask what someone’s needs are while also learning about their heart and their priorities. If you’re in sales, you’re welcome. That’s million dollar advice in itself.
Last night for some reason I was up at 2 a.m. with swirling, scrambled, spiderweb thoughts. I have been thinking about why I love to write and who I’m writing for – what the purpose is in it. I also worry I’m too addicted to my phone and social media, though I’m programmed to think with it in mind for work, and writing. I’m not normally a scribble notes on the nightstand person, but I guess my sub-conscious had something to say about the matter.
Here’s what my 2 a.m. note said: “What other people think of you is none of your business. What other people are doing is none of your business either. That’s what kills me about these little boxes on a hillside (you like that Weeds Instagram analogy?). I’m here to help remind you to look in on your own life and love it. Live it without regard for what’s fitting into a 4×4 square.
The Love Your Life More recipe:
1. Write down what you want often, then review. Chip away at what you want.
2. Be grateful for little things. This may take some mental reprogramming.
3. Dreams are good – don’t think of not achieving them YET as failures, but as futures.
4. Stop comparing. Mentally pinch yourself when you do. Find something you love in your life to be grateful for in that very moment every time you think a comparing thought to drive out the bullsh*t.”
So there you have it: what’s keeping me up at night. Who can relate? I love the answer this question, so bring it on.
