How to Use a Soil Blocker to Start Your Seeds
I will never use anything other than a soil blocker to start my seeds again. It’s the most sustainable and successful way to do it, and is so easy – I swear!
I found my soil blocker from Garrett Wade, and the quality and style of the tools are fantastic.
Watch the video to see how I use it! `

As for the soil itself for soil blocking, it’s a mixture of garden soil, coconut coir, perlite, blood meal, and fishbone meal. I used a 5-gallon tub to mix it all in, with about half the tub with garden soil (about a 5 lb bag).
The rest was this:
- 8oz perlite
- 1/2 cup of blood meal
- 1/2 cup bone meal
- 8 oz coconut coir
- 1 lb compost
- Enough water to make the soil sort of sticky, but not mud.
I hope you try out soil blocking and love it! Grab your own here!
